We are a fee for service office and unable to accept insurance as primary payment. Dr. Spencer and Dr. Murphy are in the unique position of being dentists treating TMD, which is considered a medical condition and are unable to contract with insurance companies for payment making us an “out-of-network” practice.
Even though our doctors are dentists, the actual treatment is linked to a medical diagnosis therefore the treatment for TMJ/TMD is generally looked upon as a medical procedure rather than a dental procedure.
Each medical insurance policy is different and a few individual policies do have out-of-network benefits regarding the treatment for TMJ/TMD. Call your insurance to inquire if:
-
TMJ is covered under your policy.
-
Your policy only covers surgery. We do not do surgery!
-
There is a percentage that is paid to out-of network doctors.
-
You have a seperate out-of-network deductible.
In attempt to obtain reimbursement of payment we are able to submit medical insurance claims for our patients as a courtesy. If your policy has an exclusion for the services provided in our office, your insurance will not cover your treatment.
